now we walk together
INSPIRATION
As an inspiration for our project we analyzed migration, which is a natural phenomenon that animal species such as whales, birds, fish, and marine turtles use instinctively to travel around the world. It is related to the earth's electromagnetic waves and an organisms' orientation capacity through magnetite crystal found in their organs, which has magnetic qualities. The magnetite’s unique migratory capabilities served Via Vos as a starting point for designing a mechanism of orientation for deaf-blind people.
IDEA
Via Vos’ proposal gives movement autonomy in closed public places to deafblind people and guide in every day context. It focuses on the target population who have developed the disability throughout their lives and use braille. The device has continuous contact with the user's skin, transmitting stimuli correcting their path, providing security in the upper body and allowing autonomous movement.
CONTEXT
In 2016 in Colombia, there were around 56,320 deafblind people, 41% were living in poverty, and 39% did not know how to read or write (Dinero, 2016)
According to ASOCIDE's data concerning the situation of deaf-blind people it was registered that between 0.2% and 2% which is respectively 15.2 million and 152 million people. (ASOCIDE 2018)
